Yeah, Catch 22 is required reading in many schools here (albeit being a fairly adult book). We had the option back in the day, so I picked it up. Not all pop media is terrible! Just do it in secret or something :ninja:
Though I've never seen it on anyone's favorite book list, I don't read a lot - so maybe there are books that far surpass it.
I started taking photos again, now it's just a matter of editing them... But I've been working a lot on this one art project I really would like to finish, so we'll see when anything shows up.

hey, nice to hear from you again.
ofcourse i was there. the second show one layer behind the front to the right a bit. i think the second show was much better then the first but i thought that beside the opening jam the first have of the show was a bit tedious, second half was as good as i've ever seen them.

im at RMIT now (fine art photography)
it has its moments but im very happy there.

keep in touch :)

Anarchist?
America sucks for the same reason; there is no defined culture. I suppose it's good and bad in the end. Nice that Melbourne is artsy though; can't say anything for the town I live in. Shitty modern American architecture.

Yeah, I can't recall at the moment why I disliked Nausicaa. Maybe I'll try again someday. You and someone that lives in my house both really enjoyed it. You should watch "Tekkon Kinkreet" and "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" They both have amazing animation and really good story lines. Not sure if they're in America yet, but, if you're a pirate, pirate! Probably have to look up the Japanese name of the later though... Toki something something something...

Catch 22 was written to mock the Vietnam War, but it could be applied to any war. It evokes almost all emotions a person can muster, but mostly that of hilarity. A mind-fuck for sure, it's deep and makes a huge statement on the absurdity of war, at least from the American stance, but the novel doesn't really feel like a war novel at all, being very surreal. I don't read a lot, but I suggest Catch 22, even if you are from Australia.

By the way, that Princess Mononoke graffiti you found - BADASS.
~deeproom:icondeeproom: Jul 11, 2008, 6:19:33 PM
i don't think you should ask me for opinions on society because i am most likely to criticize it no matter where i live. i don't know, the only thing cool about melbourne is the way the city looks, and the 'art scene'... it's better than sydney's, which is australia's other big city.

melbourne is like a mix of old buildings and cool new sculptures. i don't like australia because of it's non-culture but i guess it's safe and healthy and clean etc.

i think you would like john frusciante, seeing as you like lots of other good music and seem to be open-minded. (he's not very well known or accessible)

awe, nausicaa is my favourite! followed by princess mononoke and totoro, i think.

ive never read catch 22 but ive heard it's really good, what's it about?
~kyar:iconkyar: Jul 11, 2008, 11:07:28 AM
I've never heard of half of those, but I'll check them out. I didn't really like Nausicaa though, it's probably my least favorite of Studio Ghibli. The manga was much better. But I don't read a lot, so I didn't expect to find similarities in books. My favorite is Catch 22. I probably should, the details and visuals are much better than nearly any film, even if film is film. I was going to start renting short film compilations and see what those have to offer. Resfest was pretty amazing.

John Frusciante? Holy shit, what a crazy last name.

Every evolution of society has unique parts to photograph. I'd like to go to a big city someday, I've never really been to one... But I guess I have my trees and university sized town and plants to photograph. Then again, I find modern society really ugly. How is society in Melbourne?

Actually I totally dig your wall art. A friend add would probably be more appropriate though.

favourite movies- lost in translation, i heart huckabees, waking life, eternal sunshine, amelie, buffalo 66, withnail & i, dolls, ada apa dengan cinta, american beauty, nausicaa of the valley of the wind (and other studio ghibli), mysterious skin, red beard, the life aquatic, ghost world, before sunrise & everything else by richard linklater. also takeshi kitano, akira kurosawa, vincent gallo and michel gondry.

(you shouldn't have asked this question)

music - john frusciante, the mars volta, and everything after this is like a million long list, but yeah/ every genre imaginable ((good genres though, of course heh heh))..well yknow

books - charles bukowski, haruki murakami, john fante, nietzsche, chris ware, alan moore (watchmen), and then just other random books.

now i am tempted to finish the music question, but we would be here forever.

hey thanks about my photos.. i live in melbourne, it's kind of big, but i took those photos in just an offbeat suburb.
take photos again!

i don't think any good movies have come out this year..every year there are less and less good movies. which somehow does not surprise me
~kyar:iconkyar: Jul 11, 2008, 12:24:54 AM
Ola Emma. Into the psychological mind-fuck artsy stuff eh? I wonder if 2008 has brought anything good out? There seems like there's a huge world of independent film, but finding it is rough. Or maybe just for me; I don't watch movies too often.
And you like every musical genre imaginable too!? Amazing! But what, specifically? With film, animation, music, and the like? Or is that a horrible question that will destroy servers with the amount of space it would take?

I still think the composition of your photos is well done. Maybe because it's not the norm where I live, maybe not. Assuming you are in a big big city? They catch the eye and evoke moods. Maybe I just really like the atmosphere created through the little known world of the backstreets. Though I'd be a little paranoid about walking through the backstreets. You're making me want to start taking pictures again (everything I've posted has been old old old.)

haha, awesome. Thanks. You're watching me, I'm watching you. DA has a weird way of saying things; sounds like we're internet stalkers. I'm going to have this image of you and your lackey graffiti teddy bear boring into my mind now miss. Jeez.
Oh well. And so long as it looks good, who cares if the color was edited? Maybe it is a statement of photo-expertise. I'm still not very good with coloring. It's time consuming and so easy to fuck it all up.
Gotta go gotta go. My name is Sage, by the way. And you?
